NDC Rejects Deregistration Claims After Court Judgment

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed reports suggesting that it has been deregistered, insisting that a recent court judgment does not affect the party’s legal status or its ability to operate as a political platform.

In a statement issued shortly after the court ruling, party officials clarified that the judgment has been widely misinterpreted, stressing that the NDC remains a legally recognized political organization. According to the party, no court order directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the NDC or suspend its political activities.

The party urged its members, supporters, and the general public to disregard reports claiming that it had lost its registration, describing such reports as misleading and capable of creating unnecessary confusion.

NDC leaders maintained that their legal team is carefully reviewing the court’s decision and remains confident that the party’s constitutional rights and legal standing remain intact. They also reaffirmed their commitment to participating fully in Nigeria’s democratic process and continuing preparations for future political activities.

The clarification comes amid heightened political tension as parties and coalitions position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speculation surrounding the court judgment had triggered widespread debate on social media, with supporters and critics expressing differing interpretations of the ruling.

Political analysts say the controversy highlights the importance of clear communication following judicial decisions involving political parties. They noted that legal disputes over party registration and recognition can have significant implications for coalition-building and electoral preparations if left unresolved.

The NDC further appealed to its supporters to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information while awaiting further legal clarification. It assured members that the party’s leadership remains focused on strengthening its structures and advancing its political agenda.
