A fresh political dispute has erupted between Kaduna North lawmaker Mohammed Bello El-Rufai and former President Muhammadu Buhari’s aide, Bashir Ahmad, over an alleged private conversation concerning President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
El-Rufai reportedly alleged that Ahmad had privately complained about conditions under the Tinubu administration while publicly supporting the President’s 2027 re-election bid.
However, Ahmad has strongly denied the allegation, saying he could not recall having any conversation with El-Rufai about Tinubu’s administration, the 2027 elections or related matters. He described the claim as surprising and challenged El-Rufai to identify the specific conversation or statement being referenced.
Ahmad also reaffirmed his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), his support for President Tinubu and his intention to campaign for the President’s re-election. He said he does not believe in anti-party activities and would continue to support Tinubu for as long as he remains an APC member and agrees with the administration’s direction.
The controversy has generated significant reactions on social media, with the disagreement centred on whether a private conversation between the two men actually occurred and, if so, what was said.
As of the latest reports reviewed, no independently verified recording or transcript of the alleged conversation has been publicly established. Ahmad therefore maintains that he did not make the alleged complaints, while El-Rufai’s reported allegation remains disputed.
The exchange comes as political activity intensifies ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, with politicians and supporters increasingly using social-media platforms to debate the performance of the Tinubu administration and the direction of the major political parties.
