NDC Chieftain Alleges Internal Party Setback in Enugu North Bye-Election

A chieftain of the National Democratic Coalition (NDC), Eze, has alleged that key party figures failed to support the party’s candidate, Ossai, during the recent Enugu North bye-election, a development he claims contributed to the party’s poor performance at the polls.

Speaking on the outcome of the election, Eze expressed disappointment over what he described as a lack of commitment from some influential members of the party. According to him, several stakeholders who were expected to mobilize support for the NDC candidate were either inactive or absent during critical stages of the campaign.

The party leader specifically alleged that certain prominent figures, including Ohaa and others, did not provide the level of backing necessary to strengthen the party’s chances in the highly contested election. He argued that greater unity and coordination could have improved the party’s performance and increased voter support.

The Enugu North bye-election attracted attention from political observers and major political parties seeking to expand their influence in the region. Analysts note that bye-elections often serve as indicators of political strength and grassroots support ahead of larger electoral contests.

Eze’s remarks have sparked discussions within the party regarding internal cohesion, leadership responsibilities, and campaign strategies. Political observers say internal disagreements and lack of coordinated support can significantly affect a party’s electoral fortunes, particularly in competitive elections.

Despite the concerns raised, party members have called for reconciliation and renewed efforts to strengthen the NDC’s structure in Enugu State and beyond. Some stakeholders believe the election outcome presents an opportunity for the party to review its strategies and address challenges that may have affected its performance.

Meanwhile, political analysts have urged party leaders to focus on unity and effective grassroots engagement as preparations for future elections continue.
