Former Spain international Álvaro Morata has named Victor Osimhen among the three best strikers in world football, praising the Nigerian forward’s goalscoring ability and character.
Morata made the comments while speaking to Sporty TV after his departure from Galatasaray, where he played alongside Osimhen during the 2024/25 season. The former Chelsea, Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid striker included Osimhen alongside Erling Haaland and Harry Kane in his personal top three.
“Victor is a legend. He’s so funny. He’s always helping everyone. What a guy! He’s a truly wonderful person and, for me, one of the top three strikers in the world,” Morata said.
The Spaniard also highlighted Osimhen’s movement and finishing ability, recalling how easy it was to play behind him at Galatasaray.
“I really enjoyed playing with him. I remember sometimes playing behind Victor. It was like, ‘Just pass the ball into the open space, and I’ll score.’ I think he’s one of the best in the world,” Morata added.
Morata’s assessment carries significance because he experienced Osimhen’s qualities first-hand during their time together in Istanbul. Their partnership contributed to Galatasaray’s successful domestic campaign, with the club winning the Turkish Super Lig and Turkish Cup.
Osimhen has since established himself as one of Galatasaray’s key attacking players. The Nigeria international scored 37 goals in 41 appearances across competitions during his 2024/25 campaign and helped secure the league’s Golden Boot. He also continued to produce goals during the following season.
Morata has also expressed his desire to see Osimhen remain at Galatasaray, describing the Turkish club as a good environment for the striker.
The recognition adds to Osimhen’s growing reputation among elite footballers and former professionals. With his pace, physical strength, movement and finishing, the Nigerian remains one of the most closely watched African players in European football.
