The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has commissioned a radio station and a campaign headquarters in Rivers State in support of President Bola Tinubu’s expected 2027 re-election bid, signalling an early mobilisation of political forces in the strategically important oil-producing state.
Wike on Saturday inaugurated Majority FM 89.5 and the headquarters of the Rivers State Renewed Hope Ambassadors, describing the initiative as unprecedented in the South-South region. He said the platforms would serve to promote the policies and achievements of the Tinubu administration ahead of the next general election.
During the event, Wike asserted his political independence from Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his former ally and political protégé, amid a protracted rift between the two leaders. The fallout, which became public in late 2023, has been linked to disputes over party structures and the control of political resources within the state.
The FCT minister also issued a warning to politicians he described as “betrayers,” cautioning against supporting disloyalty within the political system. In strongly worded remarks, Wike invoked spiritual consequences for betrayal and predicted swift political repercussions for second-term governors who turn against their benefactors.
His comments come as political alignments and manoeuvring begin to intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, with Rivers State expected to play a pivotal role given its economic significance and history of fiercely contested politics.
