Colombian singer Shakira has opened up about her decision to collaborate with Nigerian Afrobeats star Burna Boy on the official 2026 FIFA World Cup song, “Dai Dai.”
During an interview on the Capital Evening Show with Jimmy Hill, Shakira explained that she wanted a male vocalist who could bring a powerful and energetic feel to the song, and she believed Burna Boy was the right fit.
The Grammy-winning singer said she had admired Burna Boy’s work for some time and personally reached out to him because she was interested in creating music together.
According to Shakira, Burna Boy’s vocal ability and artistic style added the quality she wanted for the international football anthem, adding that she could not picture another artiste delivering the part.
The collaboration between the two global artistes has attracted attention from music fans worldwide, with “Dai Dai” achieving notable success on streaming platforms and international charts.
