Paris, March 3, 2026 – France has declared its readiness to assist Gulf countries and Jordan in defending themselves against military threats from Iran, French Foreign Minister Jean‑Noël Barrot said on Monday amid escalating regional tensions.
Speaking after a crisis meeting in Paris, Barrot said France stands in “full support and complete solidarity” with allied nations that have been targeted by missile and drone attacks attributed to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. He listed Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Iraq, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman and Jordan as countries drawn into the conflict “they did not choose.”
Barrot emphasized that Paris is prepared to participate in collective defence in accordance with existing agreements and international law if its partners formally request assistance. He reiterated calls for restraint and urged an end to hostilities that have embroiled the region following recent strikes.
The renewed tensions stem from a series of Iranian retaliatory attacks after a large-scale Israeli-U.S. military operation that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader, triggering broader conflict dynamics across the Middle East. Neighboring Gulf states have condemned the assaults, raising concerns over civilian and infrastructure security.
France, along with Germany and the United Kingdom, has also underscored its commitment to protecting its interests and those of its allies, with diplomatic efforts continuing alongside military preparedness.
