2027 General Election Will Be Nigeria’s Best Yet, INEC Chairman Assures

Abuja, March 3, 2026 – The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has assured Nigerians that the 2027 general election will be the most credible and well-organized in the nation’s history.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ engagement in Abuja, Yakubu said the Commission is committed to strengthening electoral processes through improved technology, transparency, and institutional reforms. He noted that lessons learned from previous elections are being carefully reviewed to address operational challenges and enhance public confidence.

“The 2027 general election will be the best Nigeria has ever conducted,” Yakubu stated, emphasizing INEC’s resolve to deliver a process that reflects the will of the people.

He highlighted ongoing efforts to upgrade voter registration systems, deepen collaboration with security agencies, and expand voter education nationwide. According to him, the Commission is also working to ensure timely distribution of election materials and improved result management procedures.

Yakubu called on political parties, civil society organizations, the media, and citizens to play their roles responsibly, stressing that credible elections require collective commitment.

Political analysts say the assurance comes amid heightened scrutiny of Nigeria’s electoral system and growing calls for reforms ahead of the 2027 polls.
