Nollywood actor Femi Branch has criticised what he described as the politicisation of issues involving children’s safety, following comments made by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde regarding the rescue of abducted schoolchildren and teachers in the state.
Branch expressed concern that political disagreements should not overshadow the seriousness of incidents involving vulnerable citizens, particularly children. He urged public officials and political actors to place the welfare and protection of children above personal or party interests.
The actor’s comments come amid public discussions surrounding the circumstances of the abduction and subsequent rescue of the Oyo schoolchildren and teachers. The incident generated widespread reactions from Nigerians, with many calling for improved security measures around schools and communities.
According to Branch, issues involving children require sensitivity, responsibility, and cooperation from all stakeholders. He argued that political debates should not distract from efforts aimed at preventing future attacks and ensuring that schools remain safe environments for students and teachers.
The actor further called on leaders at all levels of government to work together in addressing insecurity, stressing that the protection of lives should remain a shared responsibility beyond political affiliations.
The incident has continued to attract attention from politicians, civil society groups, and security experts, with discussions focusing on intelligence gathering, emergency response systems, and stronger security arrangements for educational institutions.
