Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a deal to sign Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush from Manchester City on an initial season-long loan, with an obligation to make the transfer permanent under agreed conditions. The deal could ultimately be worth £60 million, comprising a guaranteed £50 million fee and potential add-ons.
The 27-year-old forward is expected to undergo his medical in London before completing the move, which would give him a fresh opportunity to establish himself after struggling for regular playing time at Manchester City.
Marmoush joined City from Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2025 for a reported £59 million following an impressive spell in Germany.
However, despite showing flashes of his attacking quality at the Etihad Stadium, the Egyptian international found it difficult to secure a regular starting position.
Competition for places, particularly with Erling Haaland leading City’s attack, limited his opportunities. During the 2025/26 campaign, Marmoush made only eight Premier League starts and scored three league goals. Across all competitions, he finished the season with eight goals in 36 appearances.
His limited playing time appears to have been a major factor behind the decision to move to Tottenham.
At Spurs, Marmoush is expected to receive greater opportunities to play regularly and demonstrate the attacking qualities that made him one of Europe’s most sought-after forwards before his move to Manchester.
The Egyptian is a versatile attacker who can operate centrally, as a second striker or from the left wing. His ability to drop deep, interchange positions and attack spaces behind defensive lines could provide Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi with another flexible option in attack.
The move is also part of an extraordinary summer rebuilding programme at Tottenham.
Spurs have already invested heavily in strengthening their squad, including the signing of former Manchester City winger Savinho for a deal reported at £75 million plus potential add-ons. The Brazilian completed his move to north London earlier this week.
Marmoush will therefore become the latest high-profile player recruited as Tottenham attempt to dramatically improve their fortunes following a disappointing 2025/26 Premier League campaign in which they finished 17th.
The club’s aggressive recruitment strategy reflects De Zerbi’s desire to build a squad capable of competing at a much higher level.
For Manchester City, the departure represents another significant change to the squad as the club reshapes its options under new manager Enzo Maresca.
City have already seen several important players leave during the summer transfer window, while the club has simultaneously invested heavily in replacements and midfield reinforcements.
For Marmoush, however, the Tottenham move represents more than a change of club.
The Egyptian forward now has an opportunity to revive his career in the Premier League by becoming a regular starter rather than a squad player.
His performances at Frankfurt demonstrated his ability to score and create goals, while his versatility makes him capable of operating in several attacking roles.
Tottenham will hope that consistent playing time can unlock that potential and turn Marmoush into one of the key attacking figures in their new-look squad.
The move also gives the Egyptian international another chance to establish himself among the Premier League’s leading forwards.
With the new season already underway and Tottenham looking to recover from last season’s struggles, expectations will be high.
