APC Backs Tinubu-Shettima Ticket Ahead of 2027 Presidential Election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed support for the continuation of the political partnership between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The ruling party presented Shettima as the preferred running mate to President Tinubu, highlighting the administration’s belief that the Tinubu-Shettima ticket has strengthened governance and maintained stability within the party since assuming office in 2023.

APC leaders said the decision reflects confidence in the performance, loyalty, and contributions of the vice president to the administration’s agenda. They described the partnership as a strategic combination that represents national inclusion and political balance across different regions of the country.

According to party stakeholders, Shettima’s experience as a former governor of Borno State and his role in supporting federal government policies have made him a valuable member of the administration. They argued that maintaining the existing ticket would provide continuity and allow the government to consolidate ongoing programmes.

The development comes as political activities gradually increase ahead of the 2027 general elections, with major parties expected to begin consultations, alliance discussions, and preparations for future campaigns.

Political analysts believe the APC’s decision to emphasize the Tinubu-Shettima partnership is aimed at projecting unity within the ruling party and reducing uncertainty surrounding its presidential ticket. However, they note that political dynamics may continue to evolve as the election approaches.

Opposition parties are also expected to intensify their strategies and explore possible alliances as they seek to challenge the APC’s dominance in the next election cycle.

The Tinubu administration has faced both support and criticism over its economic policies, security measures, and governance reforms. APC leaders maintain that the government requires more time to implement its development plans and deliver its promises to Nigerians.
