Bala Mohammed Dismisses Reports Linking Him to Jonathan’s 2027 Ticket

Governor Bala Mohammed has denied reports suggesting he plans to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to serve as the vice-presidential running mate to former President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2027 general election.

In a statement shared on social media, Mohammed described the claims as false and misleading, insisting that he has no intention of rejoining the PDP for any presidential arrangement.

The Bauchi governor reaffirmed his commitment to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), the platform he joined earlier this year after leaving the PDP. He stated that his political focus remains on contesting for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat in the 2027 elections.

According to Mohammed, reports linking him to a Jonathan presidential ticket were products of speculation and should be disregarded by supporters and members of the public.

The rumors gained traction following a controversial convention organized by a PDP faction, which reportedly announced Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election. However, questions remain over the legitimacy of the faction and whether Jonathan has accepted or endorsed the nomination.

Political observers note that the PDP has continued to grapple with internal disputes, leadership challenges, and competing factions, creating uncertainty about the party’s direction ahead of the next general election.

Mohammed’s clarification is expected to end speculation about his immediate political plans, particularly as various parties continue to witness defections, alliances, and realignments ahead of 2027.

The governor remains one of the most influential political figures in Bauchi State and the North-East region, making his future political decisions a subject of considerable public interest.

Analysts say the statement underscores the fluid nature of Nigeria’s political landscape, where rumors of alliances and potential presidential tickets frequently emerge as parties reposition themselves for upcoming elections.

With the 2027 elections still ahead, political actors across the country are expected to continue building coalitions and testing possible alliances, even as many reported arrangements remain speculative until formally announced by the individuals and parties involved.
