Police Arrest Suspected Bandit Kingpin, Associate in Zamfara

Operatives of the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the Zamfara State Police Command have arrested a suspected notorious bandit leader, Ali Bahago Danakulu, along with several of his alleged lieutenants in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

According to police authorities, the suspects were apprehended during a targeted operation aimed at dismantling criminal networks linked to banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling, and other violent crimes that have plagued parts of the state.

Investigators believe Danakulu is a key figure in bandit activities operating within Zamfara and neighboring states in Nigeria’s North-West region. His arrest is being viewed as a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to combat insecurity in the area.

Police sources disclosed that the operation was based on credible intelligence and sustained surveillance by security operatives. The suspects were reportedly taken into custody without major resistance.

The command said preliminary investigations are underway to determine the full extent of the suspects’ alleged involvement in criminal activities and to identify other members of the network who may still be at large.

Security agencies are also expected to use intelligence gathered from the arrests to strengthen ongoing operations against armed groups operating in forests and remote communities across Zamfara State.

The arrest comes amid intensified security operations by the police, military, and other security agencies to curb banditry, kidnapping, and attacks on rural communities in the North-West.

Residents of Zamfara and neighboring states have long endured insecurity caused by armed groups responsible for mass abductions, killings, and displacement of communities.

Police authorities have assured the public that efforts will continue to track down other criminal elements and restore peace to affected areas. They also urged residents to support security agencies with timely and credible information that could assist ongoing investigations and operations.

Security analysts say the successful arrest of a suspected high-profile bandit leader could provide valuable intelligence for future operations and potentially weaken criminal networks operating across the region.

The suspects are expected to face prosecution upon the conclusion of investigations.
