The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on Nigerians to obtain their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections as the party intensifies nationwide political mobilization efforts.
In a message released on May 19, the party urged eligible citizens, especially young voters and first-time participants, to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration process and prepare actively for the next electoral cycle.
The NDC, which emerged following its registration in February 2026, is led by former Bayelsa State governor Henry Seriake Dickson and has rapidly gained visibility through a series of high-profile political alignments and defections.
The party’s growing profile has been further boosted by the involvement of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, both of whom have been linked to ongoing coalition efforts within the platform.
Supporters of the NDC describe the party as an emerging opposition force capable of channeling growing public frustration over economic hardship, inflation, insecurity, and governance concerns under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Many backers argue that increased PVC collection and voter participation are essential for strengthening democratic accountability and ensuring broader political inclusion in 2027.
However, critics remain skeptical about the effectiveness of voter mobilization alone, with some questioning whether Nigeria’s electoral system can guarantee fairness and transparency in future elections.
Concerns have also been raised regarding public trust in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), led by Chairman Joash Ojo Amupitan. Some opposition voices have expressed doubts about the commission’s independence and its ability to conduct a fully credible electoral process.
Despite the skepticism, political analysts note that voter registration campaigns remain a crucial aspect of democratic participation, particularly as opposition parties seek to energize younger voters and previously disengaged citizens.
INEC’s Continuous Voter Registration exercise is expected to remain open through mid-2026, allowing eligible Nigerians to register online and complete verification at designated local offices nationwide.

As political activities continue to intensify across the country, the NDC’s PVC campaign reflects the increasing focus among parties and movements on grassroots mobilization and voter engagement ahead of what is expected to be a highly competitive 2027 election season.
