The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has intensified voter awareness efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections following confusion over differing versions of the party’s logo circulating online and on official electoral materials.
The party, which was reportedly registered after a court victory in February 2026, has been mobilizing supporters nationwide to obtain their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) as part of preparations for future elections.
However, concerns emerged after supporters noticed discrepancies between the NDC logo widely promoted on social media and the version appearing on materials linked to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
While many supporters have circulated a blue circular emblem associated with the party online, the version reportedly recognized in official electoral documentation appears as a rectangular striped design carrying the inscription “BY COURT ORDER.”
The development has triggered widespread discussions among party members and supporters, with many calling for immediate public education campaigns to ensure voters can correctly identify the official ballot symbol during elections.
Supporters linked to former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso have reportedly joined efforts to spread awareness about the approved logo, warning that confusion on election day could lead to misplaced or split votes.
Political observers note that party symbols play a critical role in Nigeria’s electoral process, especially among rural and semi-literate voters who often rely heavily on visual identification during voting.
