Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said a broader political alliance is emerging around President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with more politicians expected to join the movement.
Wike spoke in Abuja while commenting on recent political engagements involving Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who visited the FCT minister after securing re-election in the August 15 governorship poll. Adeleke also met with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.
The former Rivers State governor described the meetings as part of an evolving “Rainbow Coalition” that cuts across political party lines. According to Wike, the political landscape ahead of 2027 is changing rapidly, and the alliance backing Tinubu could become significantly larger in the coming weeks.
“So, Adeleke is fully supporting Mr President,” Wike said, while dismissing claims by some members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that their support was responsible for Adeleke’s victory in Osun.
Wike argued that Adeleke’s decision to engage Tinubu and other political figures demonstrated the importance of political relationships beyond formal party affiliations.
He predicted further movement among politicians and groups as the 2027 election approaches.
“In the next few weeks, watch what is going to happen. You will see the Rainbow Coalition in this country supporting Mr President,” the minister said.
The development is significant because cross-party alliances could play an important role in the 2027 presidential contest. With political parties already building campaign structures and seeking influential figures, movements across party lines could reshape the balance of political forces.
Wike concluded his remarks by declaring, “Adeleke belongs to us, and we all belong to Mr President.”
However, the minister’s comments represent his assessment of the emerging political landscape. Adeleke’s meetings with Tinubu and Wike have generated speculation about his political relationships, but they do not by themselves amount to a formal change of party affiliation.
Adeleke won the August 15 Osun governorship election with 511,067 votes, defeating APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji. His victory and subsequent political engagements have added a fresh dimension to the alliances taking shape ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election.
