Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s chances of winning the 2027 presidential election, arguing that recent political developments have significantly strengthened the ruling camp.
Wike made the remarks while speaking with journalists in Abuja, where he pointed to what he described as an emerging political realignment across the country. He said more politicians and groups were expected to join a broader coalition supporting Tinubu as the election approaches.
According to the former Rivers State governor, the opposition lacks the cohesion and organisational strength needed to pose a serious challenge to the President. He dismissed suggestions that there is currently a dominant opposition force capable of defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Wike also referred to recent political engagements involving Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, describing them as evidence of shifting political alliances. He said Adeleke’s support for Tinubu was part of a wider “Rainbow Coalition” that could become more prominent in the coming weeks.
The minister declared: “This election has been concluded. It has been concluded, so there’s nothing anybody can do.”
Wike’s statement has political significance as parties and aspirants intensify preparations for the 2027 presidential contest. His comments also come amid efforts by opposition politicians to establish a stronger platform capable of challenging Tinubu at the national level.
The minister has repeatedly argued that the opposition is too divided to defeat an incumbent president. Earlier in August, he described the 2027 contest as one of Tinubu’s easiest electoral battles and said a formidable opposition would require years of organisation and preparation.
However, Wike’s prediction remains a political assessment rather than an electoral outcome. The 2027 presidential election has yet to take place, and opposition parties and political groups continue to organise ahead of the poll.
As Nigeria moves closer to the next general election, political realignments, candidate selection, campaign strategies and voter sentiment are expected to determine the eventual outcome.
