Coalition Mobilises Support for Election Monitoring, Real-Time Results Transmission, Grassroots Engagement and Nationwide Rallies
The Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM) has commenced a ₦1.8 billion fundraising initiative to finance its 2027 election mandate protection project, focusing on polling unit monitoring, vote protection, real-time transmission of election results, grassroots mobilisation, voter education and election observation.
The official fundraising virtual meeting was declared open at 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 20, 2026, bringing together COPDEM Board of Trustees (BOT) members, supporters and other participants committed to strengthening electoral participation and protecting the integrity of the 2027 elections.
During the virtual meeting, COPDEM BOT members reportedly led the donation efforts, with notable contributions ranging from $10,000 to ₦20,000 among BOT members, members, supporters and other participants. The fundraising initiative is being presented as an opportunity for Nigerians who support the organisation’s longstanding grassroots engagements, which date back to 2023, to contribute to its planned nationwide electoral activities.
BOT Members Assure Donors of Financial Transparency
Two longstanding members of the COPDEM Board of Trustees reportedly encouraged donors to contribute freely towards the initiative, while commending the organisation’s approach to transparency and accountability in managing funds for its programmes and institutional objectives.
The BOT members expressed confidence in COPDEM’s financial management practices and urged supporters to participate in the fundraising effort aimed at supporting the protection of the 2027 electoral mandate.
In a commitment to financial accountability, COPDEM assured donors that a spreadsheet detailing promissory donations, redeemed contributions, outstanding balances and a breakdown of financial records for the 2027 mandate protection project would be made available.
The organisation said the proposed financial reporting structure would enable donors and stakeholders to track commitments and contributions, providing greater visibility into the management of funds raised for the project.
COPDEM also disclosed that wider publications concerning subsequent donations would be circulated to provide more Nigerians with the opportunity to participate in the fundraising initiative.
Nationwide Grassroots Mobilisation Begins October 1
Beyond fundraising, COPDEM announced the commencement of grassroots mobilisation and sensitisation activities across Nigeria as part of its preparations for the 2027 elections.
The organisation disclosed plans for the Mother of All Rallies, which is scheduled to commence in 12 states from October 1, 2026, with another 12 states expected to join the mobilisation exercise subsequently.
The planned rallies are expected to support grassroots engagement, voter education and public sensitisation on the importance of electoral participation and the protection of votes.
COPDEM’s broader election protection agenda includes monitoring activities at polling units, documenting electoral processes, transmitting election results in real time, and strengthening citizen participation in election observation.
The organisation has called on Nigerians to support its nationwide initiatives and contribute towards efforts aimed at ensuring that votes are properly documented and counted during the 2027 elections.
