Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has inaugurated a campaign council of more than 600 members for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
Malami, the ADC governorship candidate in the state, inaugurated the campaign structure on Wednesday, August 26, with a charge to members to take the party’s message to communities across Kebbi’s 21 local government areas.
The former minister said the council was established to create a coordinated grassroots network for all ADC candidates contesting various elective positions in the state.
“This Campaign Council represents our collective ADC campaign. It is not about one candidate or one elective position. From the governorship to the Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly, we must work as one political family,” Malami said.
He urged campaign officials to work collectively and avoid activities that could create divisions within the party. Malami particularly cautioned against tribalism, sectional interests and personal rivalry.
He also called for reconciliation among members with existing grievances, saying internal differences should be addressed through dialogue rather than allowed to weaken the party’s structure.
“Where there are disagreements, let us reconcile. Where there are grievances, let us listen. Where there is suspicion, let us rebuild trust. Our diversity must become our strength,” he said.
Malami further urged members to adopt an issue-based approach to campaigning and maintain respect for political opponents and voters. He warned against hate speech, ethnic insults and inflammatory rhetoric.
The former minister said political competition should not permanently damage relationships within communities, noting that politicians and voters would continue to live together after the elections.
The inauguration is significant as the ADC works to strengthen its presence in Kebbi ahead of the 2027 polls. The council includes representatives from different communities, local government areas and senatorial districts, reflecting the party’s attempt to build a broad grassroots structure.
Malami urged the newly inaugurated members to view their roles as a responsibility to serve rather than as political rewards, marking the beginning of what he described as a new phase of mobilisation for the ADC in Kebbi.
