The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed that it has received more than ₦500 billion in budgetary allocations to support preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The electoral commission said the funding is intended to strengthen logistical planning, voter registration, procurement of election materials, deployment of technology, and other critical activities required for the successful conduct of the nationwide polls.
According to the commission, preparations for the 2027 elections are already underway, with resources being deployed to improve electoral processes and ensure that Nigerians participate in credible, free, and fair elections. INEC noted that early funding is essential for effective planning and timely implementation of its electoral timetable.
The commission reiterated its commitment to transparency and accountability in the utilization of public funds, assuring Nigerians that all expenditures would be guided by existing financial regulations and oversight mechanisms.
INEC also stated that the allocation would support voter education programmes, staff training, logistics, security coordination, and the continuous improvement of election technology aimed at enhancing the credibility of the electoral process.
