#Throwback: Gunmen Kill Senior Army Officer in Abuja, Abduct Wife

Tragedy struck in Nigeria’s capital territory as gunmen reportedly killed senior Nigerian Army officer, Major General Hassan Ahmed, during an attack in the Abaji area of Abuja.
According to reports at the time, the attackers ambushed the vehicle conveying the senior military officer and his wife while they were returning from Okene. The assailants allegedly opened fire on the vehicle, killing the General on the spot before abducting his wife.
Sources familiar with the incident disclosed that the driver of the vehicle survived the deadly attack after reportedly pretending to be dead while the gunmen carried out the operation.
Before his death, Major General Hassan Ahmed was serving at the Army Headquarters after his appointment by the then Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya. He had also previously served as the Provost Marshal of the Nigerian Army, a position regarded as one of the military’s most strategic disciplinary and investigative offices.
The shocking attack further heightened concerns over insecurity and rising cases of kidnappings and armed violence across several parts of Nigeria, including routes linking the Federal Capital Territory and neighbouring states.
Security analysts at the time described the incident as a major embarrassment to the nation’s security architecture, considering the status of the victim and the proximity of the attack to the nation’s capital
