Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Freetown, Sierra Leone, to represent Nigeria at the forthcoming Summit of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The summit is expected to bring together presidents and government leaders from across the West African sub-region to deliberate on pressing political, economic and security issues affecting member states. Discussions are anticipated to focus on regional integration, democratic governance, economic cooperation, peacebuilding and responses to the growing security challenges confronting the region.
Shettima’s participation underscores Nigeria’s continued commitment to the objectives of ECOWAS and its longstanding leadership role in promoting regional stability and economic development in West Africa.
According to government officials, the Vice President will participate in high-level engagements aimed at strengthening cooperation among member states and advancing collective solutions to issues including terrorism, violent extremism, unconstitutional changes of government, cross-border crime and economic resilience.
