Peter Obi Expresses Gratitude to Nigerians Following Benin Incident

Former presidential candidate, , has extended heartfelt appreciation to Nigerians at home and in the diaspora for their prayers, calls, and solidarity following the reported incident at the ADC office in Benin.

In a message of gratitude, Obi acknowledged the outpouring of support during what he described as a difficult period, particularly for the family of former Edo State Governor, , whom he praised as a distinguished elder who has served Nigeria honourably in various capacities. He also expressed concern and goodwill toward another former Governor of Edo State, .

Obi stated that the solidarity shown by Nigerians has strengthened his faith in the country’s shared humanity and collective aspiration for a better future. He noted that his appreciation is reflected in a renewed commitment to national service and the pursuit of a more stable and prosperous Nigeria.

Reflecting on past challenges, the former Anambra State Governor recalled that experiences of violence and insecurity in shaped his resolve to seek leadership, driven by the conviction that governance must restore order, security, and public trust. He observed that the growing concerns about lawlessness across the country now call on citizens of goodwill to act with courage and responsibility rather than fear.

Quoting the philosopher Plato, Obi emphasized the civic duty of citizens to engage in governance, warning that the cost of apathy is often poor leadership. He urged Nigerians to remain resolute in electing leaders defined by competence, commitment, character, and compassion—leaders who place national interest above personal ambition and service above power.

He concluded with a message of unity and hope, affirming that through collective courage and determination, Nigerians can build a peaceful, secure, and prosperous nation.

“A new Nigeria is possible,” he stated.
