Ogbuefi Ndigbo Urges Obidients to Remain United, Avoid Alienating Coalition Partners Ahead of 2027

A prominent supporter of Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, and independent media consultant, Ogbuefi Ndigbo, has called on members of the Obidient Movement to remain focused on the broader objective of securing victory for Obi in the 2027 presidential election rather than allowing frustrations arising from recent party primaries to create divisions within the coalition.

In an open message addressed to Obidients, Ndigbo acknowledged the disappointment and grievances expressed by some aspirants and stakeholders following recent primaries conducted by political parties, including the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). He noted that allegations of irregularities and financial inducements had generated concerns among party faithful but insisted that Peter Obi should not be blamed for any perceived shortcomings in the process.

According to him, Obi entrusted the management of party affairs at various levels to designated party leaders and structures, urging aggrieved aspirants to channel their concerns through the appropriate leadership mechanisms.

Ndigbo stressed that coalition politics often requires difficult compromises and strategic decisions aimed at building a stronger political platform capable of challenging entrenched interests. He argued that Obi has worked within those realities to support loyal associates and members of the Obidient Movement while pursuing a broader national coalition.

He further revealed that existing political arrangements and understandings within the party structure had granted significant authority to the leadership under Senator Seriake Dickson, making certain outcomes inevitable within the framework of coalition-building.

The media consultant cautioned Obidients against directing their frustrations at members and supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the movement from the ADC to the NDC as a strategic effort designed to strengthen political structures and attract influential stakeholders across the country.

According to him, many committed supporters, political structures and allies remain within the ADC ecosystem, and maintaining cordial relations with them remains critical to the success of the broader coalition.

He noted that Peter Obi’s political strategy differs significantly from the 2023 election cycle, when many analysts argued that the former Anambra State governor lacked sufficient support from key political elites. He said Obi deliberately carried influential political actors and regional stakeholders into the current coalition arrangement to avoid a repeat of that experience.

Ndigbo also emphasised the importance of maintaining strong relationships with the leadership led by Senator Seriake Dickson as well as the Kwankwasiyya Movement, arguing that both remain essential components of any viable coalition capable of confronting the ruling APC in 2027.

While recognising the frustrations of aspirants who may have lost out in the primary process, he urged supporters not to lose sight of what he described as the larger mission of rescuing Nigeria through the emergence of a Peter Obi presidency.

He encouraged Obidients nationwide to focus on reconciliation, grassroots mobilisation, voter education and preparations for the general election rather than internal disputes over party tickets.

“The New Nigeria we seek demands discipline and focus today,” he stated, urging supporters to remain united and avoid actions that could weaken the coalition or hand political advantage to opponents ahead of the 2027 contest.

The statement concluded with a renewed call for unity, strategic thinking and unwavering commitment to the political movement’s long-term objectives.
