Kwankwaso Speaks on Relationship With Ali Modu Sheriff: ‘We Know Ourselves Well’

Former Kano State Governor and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso has spoken about his relationship with former Borno State Governor and ex-national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ali Modu Sheriff, saying the two politicians understand each other well.

Kwankwaso made the remark while addressing questions about his political relationship with Sheriff and the possibility of working together amid Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.

Speaking about their ties, Kwankwaso reportedly said, “We know ourselves well,” suggesting that his relationship with the former Borno governor is based on a long-standing understanding developed over the years.

The statement has attracted attention against the backdrop of ongoing political realignments ahead of future elections. Political alliances and consultations among influential figures have become increasingly important as parties and politicians consider strategies for strengthening their positions across the country.

Kwankwaso’s comments are particularly significant because of his political influence in Kano and the wider northern region. His political movement, known as the Kwankwasiya movement, has maintained a strong presence in Kano politics and has expanded its influence nationally through the NNPP.

Sheriff, meanwhile, is an experienced politician who has held several prominent positions in Nigerian politics. He served as governor of Borno State and later became national chairman of the PDP, giving him extensive experience in both state and national political affairs.

The latest comments, however, do not necessarily indicate a formal political alliance between the two politicians. Rather, Kwankwaso’s statement appears to highlight their familiarity and understanding of each other’s political backgrounds.

Nigeria’s political landscape has continued to witness shifting alliances as politicians across different parties explore possible partnerships ahead of future elections. Such movements often generate speculation about potential coalitions and the direction of major political figures.

Kwankwaso’s latest remarks are therefore likely to fuel further discussion about his relationship with Sheriff and their possible roles in Nigeria’s future political developments. For now, the former Kano governor’s comment that “we know ourselves well” provides insight into the nature of their relationship without confirming any specific political arrangement.
