Former Kano State Governor and Kwankwasiyya leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has expressed gratitude to the leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) following his ratification as the party’s vice presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.
In a statement released after a special affirmation ceremony, Kwankwaso described the occasion as a profound honour and congratulated Peter Obi on his affirmation as the NDC’s presidential candidate.
The former presidential aspirant said he was humbled by the confidence reposed in him by the party leadership and pledged his commitment to the NDC’s vision ahead of the 2027 elections.
Kwankwaso specifically thanked the party’s national leader, Seriake Dickson, and other leaders of the party for what he described as a bold and visionary decision.
According to him, the emergence of the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket demonstrates the party’s commitment to national unity, democratic consolidation, and purposeful leadership.
“The decision clearly reflects the NDC’s unwavering commitment to national unity, democratic consolidation, and purposeful leadership as we prepare for the 2027 elections,” he stated.
The development formally cements the alliance between Obi and Kwankwaso, two of Nigeria’s most prominent opposition figures, under the NDC platform as the party seeks to mount a strong challenge in the next presidential election.
Supporters of the ticket have welcomed the announcement, arguing that it combines Obi’s popularity among youths and urban voters with Kwankwaso’s strong political base in Northern Nigeria.
Political analysts say the confirmation of the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket is likely to reshape opposition politics and intensify political competition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The NDC has in recent weeks positioned itself as a major opposition platform, attracting several high-profile politicians and former lawmakers as parties continue to realign ahead of the next electoral cycle.
