Elder statesman and Northern leader, Prof. Ango Abdullahi, has reportedly expressed doubts about the capacity of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to provide the fundamental solutions Nigeria needs.
Abdullahi, while speaking on the country’s political trajectory, reportedly said he does not know former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi very well but is convinced that neither Tinubu nor Atiku can fix Nigeria.
“I don’t know Peter Obi very well, but I’m convinced that Tinubu and Atiku cannot fix Nigeria.”
The statement is significant coming from Abdullahi, a prominent Northern elder and former university administrator, amid growing debate over the leadership options ahead of the 2027 general elections.
His remarks appear to shift the focus from personalities and political alliances to the broader question of who possesses the capacity, competence and political will to address Nigeria’s longstanding challenges.
Nigeria continues to grapple with insecurity, unemployment, poverty, inflation, infrastructure deficits and concerns over governance and public accountability. These challenges have increasingly dominated political discourse as opposition groups seek to present an alternative to the ruling APC administration.
Abdullahi’s comment on Obi is particularly notable because he carefully distinguished between personal familiarity with the former Anambra governor and his assessment of the other major political figures.
While stating that he does not know Obi very well, his declaration that Tinubu and Atiku cannot fix Nigeria could fuel further debate among voters and political stakeholders about the country’s leadership options in 2027.
The statement also comes against the backdrop of intensified realignment among opposition politicians and groups seeking to challenge the ruling party in the next presidential election.
