The Kebbi State Government has raised fresh security concerns following reports of the emergence of a new armed group known locally as “Sai Mallam,” which authorities say may pose a threat to peace and stability in parts of the state.
Government officials disclosed that intelligence reports have indicated increasing activities linked to the group in some communities, prompting heightened surveillance and security measures. The development has sparked concerns among residents and local leaders already grappling with security challenges affecting parts of northwestern Nigeria.
According to state authorities, the group is suspected of engaging in activities capable of undermining public safety, including the recruitment of members and attempts to establish influence in vulnerable communities. Officials warned residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements to security agencies.
The Kebbi State Government emphasized that it is working closely with security forces to assess the nature of the threat and prevent any escalation. Authorities also reassured residents that proactive measures are being implemented to safeguard lives and property.
Security experts note that the emergence of new armed groups remains a major concern across several parts of the country, where criminal networks have increasingly evolved and adopted different operational structures. Analysts say early detection and community cooperation are critical in preventing such groups from gaining a foothold.
Community leaders have also appealed to residents, particularly young people, to avoid involvement in activities that could expose them to criminal organizations. They stressed the importance of supporting security agencies through intelligence sharing and public vigilance.
The latest warning comes amid ongoing efforts by federal and state authorities to combat insecurity, banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes affecting communities in various parts of Nigeria.
