Dangote Refinery, Major Marketers Reduce Petrol Depot Prices Amid FG Pressure

The price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, is witnessing fresh adjustments as major industry players, including the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and leading petroleum marketers, reduce depot prices amid renewed government pressure to make fuel more affordable.

The reduction in depot prices is expected to influence the cost of petrol at filling stations and provide some relief for consumers facing the impact of high transportation costs and rising living expenses.

Industry sources said the move followed engagements between government officials and stakeholders in the petroleum sector, with authorities urging refiners, importers and marketers to support measures aimed at reducing the burden of fuel costs on Nigerians.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery, one of Africa’s largest refining facilities, has been playing a major role in efforts to increase domestic fuel supply and reduce dependence on imported petroleum products. The refinery’s operations have been viewed as a key development in Nigeria’s quest for energy security.

Major petroleum marketers have also adjusted their depot prices, a development expected to encourage competition within the downstream sector and create room for further price reductions.

Economic analysts say lower depot prices could have a positive impact on the wider economy by reducing logistics expenses, supporting businesses and easing pressure on household budgets. However, they noted that factors such as crude oil prices, foreign exchange rates, distribution costs and market conditions would continue to influence pump prices.

The Federal Government has continued to engage stakeholders in the oil and gas industry as part of efforts to promote stability in the downstream petroleum sector following recent reforms.

Consumers and transport operators are closely monitoring the latest price adjustments, hoping they will translate into sustained reductions at retail outlets nationwide.

Industry stakeholders have called for continued collaboration between government and private sector operators to ensure a stable fuel supply chain and a more predictable pricing environment for Nigerians.
