The , Student Network Ekiti State (COPDEM Student Network Ekiti), has strongly condemned the reported attack on former presidential candidate in , , describing the incident as unacceptable and a threat to the democratic rights of all Nigerians.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the student body expressed deep concern that the incident allegedly endangered the lives of citizens and political participants. The group warned that violence directed at political actors undermines democratic engagement, weakens institutions, and erodes public trust in the political process.
COPDEM Student Network Ekiti State called for a full and impartial investigation into the attack, urging authorities to identify and prosecute all individuals involved. The group further demanded increased protection for political figures and citizens during public engagements to prevent future occurrences.
The organisation also sought clear public assurances from relevant authorities that all Nigerians, regardless of party affiliation, can safely participate in political activities without fear of intimidation or violence.
Stressing the importance of security in sustaining democracy, the student network stated that the safety of citizens and political leaders remains fundamental to a functioning democratic system. It maintained that acts of intimidation and political violence must not go unchallenged.
