Breaking: INEC Extends Nationwide Voter Registration to July 26, Introduces Full Online Registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended Phase III of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by an additional 16 days, shifting the closing date from July 10 to July 26, 2026.

According to an internal circular dated July 3, 2026, and signed by the Secretary to the Commission, Dr. Rose Oriaran-Anthony, the extension was approved at the Commission’s meeting held on July 2, 2026.

In a major development, INEC also announced the deployment of a full online voter registration platform for the extension period. The new system will enable eligible Nigerians to start and complete their voter registration online without visiting any CVR centre, marking a significant digital milestone in the country’s electoral process.

The Commission further disclosed that all necessary logistics have been put in place to ensure a smooth exercise, including special allowances for Registration Officers (ROs) to work on weekends and public holidays.

Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) across the country have been directed to implement the new directives immediately.

The extension is expected to provide millions of eligible Nigerians who are yet to register with another opportunity to obtain their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) ahead of future elections.
