BREAKING | Akin Osuntokun Defects from Labour Party to ADC

Akin Osuntokun, former Director-General of the Labour Party (LP) Presidential Campaign Council, has officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking another significant shift within Nigeria’s opposition political space.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Osuntokun cited deep-seated internal crises as the reason for his exit from the Labour Party. He blamed what he described as the activities of “internal saboteurs” who, in his words, have hijacked the party’s structure for selfish ends.

Osuntokun alleged that those currently in control of the Labour Party are more interested in selling the party to the highest bidder rather than building a credible political platform rooted in ideology and service to the people. He maintained that such actions run contrary to the interests and sacrifices of genuine members who worked tirelessly for the party’s growth, especially during the 2023 general elections.

His defection to the ADC further fuels ongoing conversations about the future of opposition politics in Nigeria, party integrity, and the growing dissatisfaction among key political actors over internal democracy and leadership accountability within major parties.
