All eyes on ADC as Moghalu resigns membership of Labour Party.

Dr. George Moghalu, the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in the 2025 Anambra State governorship election, has formally resigned his membership of the party.

The former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) conveyed his decision in a resignation letter dated January 26, 2026, which he personally signed and submitted to the Chairman of the Labour Party in his ward, Uruagu, Nnewi, Anambra State. The resignation takes immediate effect.

In the letter, Chief Moghalu expressed deep appreciation to the Labour Party at the ward, state, and national levels for providing him the platform to contest the November 2025 off-cycle governorship election in Anambra State. He acknowledged the support, cooperation, and goodwill extended to him by party leaders and members throughout the campaign period, describing his exit as cordial and appreciative.

Part of the letter reads: “I bring you the good wishes of my family and write to formally inform you of my resignation from the Labour Party, effective January 26, 2026. Let me also thank the party, through you, for providing me the opportunity to use the Labour Party platform to contest the last governorship election of our state. Please accept, as always, the assurance of my sincere regards and kindly convey same to the members.”

The development marks a significant shift in Anambra’s political landscape, coming months after the 2025 governorship contest, and is expected to spark fresh realignments within the state’s opposition politics.
