APC Mobilises 4 Million Polling Unit Officials Ahead of 2027

Governor Hope Uzodimma has stated that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is preparing an extensive grassroots mobilisation strategy for the 2027 general elections, including the deployment of approximately 4.4 million polling unit officials across the country.

Speaking on the party’s preparations for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu‘s re-election bid, Uzodimma reportedly said the APC is strengthening its structures at the polling-unit level to ensure effective voter engagement, election monitoring, and campaign coordination.

According to the governor, the strategy is aimed at consolidating support for Tinubu and expanding the party’s reach in communities nationwide. With Nigeria having more than 176,000 polling units, the figure suggests a plan to assign multiple party operatives to each polling station during the election cycle.

Uzodimma argued that the APC remains confident in its electoral prospects, citing ongoing government projects, economic reforms, and party organisation as factors that could strengthen its position ahead of the next presidential election.

The announcement comes as political parties intensify preparations for 2027. The APC has already rallied behind Tinubu as its standard-bearer, while opposition parties continue to position their candidates and build alliances.

Supporters of the ruling party view the mobilisation effort as evidence of a well-organised political machine capable of maintaining nationwide presence and voter outreach. They argue that strong grassroots structures are essential for electoral success in a country as large and diverse as Nigeria.

Critics, however, contend that electoral victory will depend less on party structures and more on voters’ assessment of the administration’s performance on key issues such as inflation, employment, security, electricity, and the cost of living. Some opposition figures have also argued that no amount of political organisation can substitute for public confidence in governance.

Political analysts note that polling-unit organisation has become increasingly important in Nigerian elections, particularly following reforms that have strengthened vote accreditation, electronic transmission processes, and election monitoring mechanisms.

The 2027 contest is expected to be highly competitive, with major political figures already emerging across different parties. Among those positioning themselves for the race are President Tinubu of the APC, Peter Obi of the NDC, and Atiku Abubakar of the ADC, alongside other potential contenders.

As campaigning gradually gathers momentum, both the ruling party and opposition groups are expected to focus heavily on grassroots mobilisation, voter education, coalition-building, and digital engagement in what could become one of Nigeria’s most closely watched elections.

Uzodimma’s remarks underscore the APC’s intention to rely on an extensive nationwide network as it seeks to secure another mandate for President Tinubu in 2027.
