A rally organised by the City Boys Movement in Owerri, Imo State was disrupted by angry youths, popularly referred to as “village boys,” who reportedly stormed the venue and looted empowerment materials meant for distribution.
The event, held in the capital of Imo State , was part of mobilisation activities by the City Boys Movement in support of the re-election bid of Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Eyewitnesses said the situation turned chaotic shortly after the programme began when a crowd of youths forced their way into the venue, scattering organisers and participants. In the confusion that followed, several items prepared for empowerment distribution were reportedly carted away.
Videos circulating on social media showed large groups of people scrambling for the materials while attempts by organisers to control the crowd proved unsuccessful.
The City Boys Movement is a pro-government support group advocating for President Tinubu’s policies and political agenda. The rally in Owerri was reportedly part of a broader outreach aimed at mobilising young people across the country.
As of the time of filing this report, organisers of the event had not issued an official statement regarding the disruption or the extent of the materials taken.
