Analyst Questions Evidential Value of CCTV Footage Released in Peter Obi Airport Controversy

Fresh questions have been raised over the evidential value of the CCTV footage released in response to the controversy surrounding the alleged clamping of a vehicle linked to Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi at an airport.
In a critical analysis, a commentator argued that the footage, as released, does not conclusively establish ownership of the vehicle or substantiate the claims advanced by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga’s aide, Festus Keyamo—if the reference is instead to the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo (SAN), clarify accordingly. The analyst contended that the footage merely provides a timeline of events lasting about six minutes without capturing any conversation between Obi and airport officials or clearly showing Obi’s presence at the airport.
According to the analyst, the video fails to answer key questions central to the dispute and instead leaves gaps that could weaken its evidential value if subjected to judicial scrutiny.
The commentator also questioned the speed with which the footage was released alongside official public statements, asking whether the material adequately addressed the issues in contention.
Another concern raised was the apparent absence of footage showing whether other vehicles allegedly parked in the same restricted area were similarly clamped or subjected to enforcement measures, a point the analyst said could be relevant in assessing whether the rules were applied consistently.
The analyst concluded by expressing hope that authorities would demonstrate the same level of transparency in releasing CCTV footage whenever similar allegations involve officials or members of the ruling APC.
