The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a major breakthrough against kidnapping in Ogun State following an operation that led to the killing of two suspected kidnappers and the recovery of ₦2.2 million believed to be part of ransom proceeds collected from their victims.
According to police authorities, the operation was carried out by security operatives acting on intelligence after tracking members of a kidnapping network operating within the state and surrounding areas.
The suspects were reportedly confronted during the raid and were killed during an exchange of gunfire with police officers. The operation also led to the recovery of cash amounting to ₦2.2 million, which investigators believe was obtained from ransom payments made by victims’ relatives.
The police described the operation as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal gangs involved in kidnapping, armed robbery, and other violent crimes threatening the safety of residents.
Security agencies have intensified intelligence-led operations across Ogun and neighbouring states in response to the increasing activities of criminal groups exploiting forests and remote communities as hideouts.
The police command assured the public that investigations are continuing to identify and arrest other members of the kidnapping syndicate who may still be at large.
Authorities also appealed to residents to continue providing timely and credible information that can assist security agencies in preventing crimes and tracking criminal elements.
The recovery of the alleged ransom proceeds is expected to aid investigators in establishing the activities and financial networks of the criminal group.
The development has been welcomed by many residents who have repeatedly raised concerns over cases of abduction and insecurity in parts of Ogun State.
Security experts, however, maintain that lasting success against kidnapping requires sustained intelligence gathering, improved surveillance, effective prosecution of offenders, and stronger cooperation between law enforcement agencies and local communities.
The latest operation underscores the continued efforts of security agencies to disrupt kidnapping networks and restore public confidence in safety across the country.
