The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has received another boost in its drive toward national cohesion and political consolidation following a high-level meeting between the party’s presidential candidate, , and prominent party leader, .
In a statement released after the meeting, RMK disclosed that he hosted Peter Obi at his Abuja residence following the former Anambra State governor’s return from what he described as a highly productive international trip.
According to RMK, the meeting provided an opportunity for both leaders to engage in frank and constructive discussions on critical partisan and national issues affecting the country and the future direction of the NDC.
“Yesterday, I had the honour of hosting my brother and partner, His Excellency Peter Obi, at my residence in Abuja,” RMK stated.
He noted that he warmly welcomed Obi back from his overseas engagements and expressed satisfaction with the outcome of their discussions, which he described as productive and focused on matters of national importance.
The meeting comes amid growing political conversations surrounding the future of opposition politics and ongoing efforts to strengthen internal cohesion within the NDC ahead of future electoral contests.
RMK used the occasion to reiterate the unity within the party, dismissing any notion of internal division and emphasizing the commitment of party leaders to place collective interests above personal differences.
“Our party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), remains strongly united. As leaders, we must continue to demonstrate maturity by making the necessary sacrifices and tolerating our differences in pursuit of our shared goal,” he said.
The NDC leader further stressed that the party’s leadership remains focused on its mission of providing credible leadership and advancing policies aimed at addressing Nigeria’s social, economic, and governance challenges.
“We are resolute in this mission, and together, we shall ensure that Nigeria is OK,” RMK declared.
Political observers view the meeting as a positive signal of continued collaboration among key stakeholders within the NDC, particularly at a time when Nigerians are increasingly demanding greater unity, vision, and coordination from political leaders seeking to offer alternative solutions to the country’s challenges.
The renewed display of solidarity between Peter Obi and RMK is expected to reassure party members and supporters of the NDC’s commitment to internal cohesion, democratic engagement, and the broader objective of building a more prosperous and inclusive Nigeria.
