IGP Approves Promotion of 17,952 Junior Police Officers Nationwide

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has approved the promotion of 17,952 junior police officers across the country in what the Nigeria Police Force describes as a major step toward boosting morale and rewarding professionalism within the service.

According to police authorities, the promotion exercise affects personnel across various junior ranks and forms part of ongoing efforts to improve career progression, motivation, and operational efficiency within the force.

Police leadership stated that the exercise reflects the commitment of the force to recognizing hard work, dedication, discipline, and service excellence among its personnel.

The beneficiaries are drawn from commands and formations nationwide and are expected to assume their new ranks following the completion of relevant administrative procedures.

In a statement, the IGP reportedly congratulated the promoted officers and urged them to see the advancement as a call to greater responsibility, professionalism, and commitment to protecting lives and property.

He emphasized that promotion within the force is not only a reward for past performance but also an expectation of higher standards of conduct and service delivery.

The development comes amid ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening the operational capacity of the Nigeria Police Force and improving officers’ welfare.

Security analysts note that timely promotions are often viewed as an important factor in maintaining morale within security agencies, particularly as personnel continue to face demanding security challenges across different parts of the country.

The police hierarchy has repeatedly stressed that enhancing welfare, training, and career development remains central to efforts to build a more effective and professional force capable of meeting modern security demands.

The promotion of nearly 18,000 officers is one of the largest recent advancement exercises within the Nigeria Police Force and is expected to impact policing operations across the federation positively.

Observers say the move could help boost confidence among rank-and-file officers while reinforcing the principle that diligence and commitment to duty can lead to career advancement within the force.
