Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, produced a commanding display to defeat Jamaica 3–0 and successfully retain the Unity Cup title in London on Saturday. The victory secured Nigeria’s fourth Unity Cup crown, extending their record as the competition’s most successful team.
The Super Eagles wasted little time asserting their dominance, with Alhassan Yusuf opening the scoring inside the opening minutes after reacting quickest to a loose ball in the Jamaican penalty area. Nigeria controlled large portions of the contest and continued to create the better chances.
Nigeria doubled their advantage in the second half when Terem Moffi headed home from close range after excellent work down the flank by the Super Eagles attack. The goal effectively put Eric Chelle’s side in firm control of the final.
The victory was sealed in stoppage time when Nigeria added a third goal, completing a dominant performance against the Reggae Boyz and sparking celebrations among Nigerian supporters in London. Reports identified either a late second goal for Yusuf or a strike by Philip Otele, but all accounts confirmed a comprehensive 3–0 triumph for the Super Eagles.
The triumph follows Nigeria’s successful defense of the Unity Cup won in 2025 and underlines the positive start being made under coach Eric Chelle. Nigeria had reached the final after defeating Zimbabwe in the semi-finals, while Jamaica booked their place by overcoming India.
For Nigerian football fans, the victory offers a welcome boost and demonstrates the depth of talent available to the national team as preparations continue for future international assignments. With four Unity Cup titles now in their cabinet, the Super Eagles remain the benchmark team in the competition’s history.
