COURTROOM BOMBSHELL: Abba Kyari Tenders Explosive Video Alleging NDLEA Aiding Drug Traffickers at Airports

The Suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, on Wednesday threw the Federal High Court in Abuja into intense drama after presenting a video he claims exposes operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) assisting drug traffickers at Nigerian airports. The development came during the continuation of his trial over alleged drug-related offences, as his defence team moved to challenge the credibility of the prosecution’s case with what they described as critical visual evidence.
According to the defence, the video purportedly captures NDLEA officials facilitating the movement of illicit substances through airport security channels, an allegation that, if proven, could significantly undermine confidence in Nigeria’s anti-narcotics enforcement architecture. The courtroom moment has since sparked widespread attention, with legal observers noting that the authenticity, admissibility, and forensic verification of the footage will ultimately determine its weight in the case.

Abba Kyari, once celebrated as one of Nigeria’s most decorated crime fighters, saw his reputation collapse following his indictment in connection with international fraud suspect Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi. The controversy led to his suspension and eventual arrest, after which the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency charged him over alleged involvement in a cocaine trafficking operation—allegations he has consistently denied.
The case has evolved into one of Nigeria’s most closely followed legal battles, not only because of Kyari’s former status within the police force but also due to its broader implications for institutional integrity within the country’s security agencies. Analysts argue that if the video evidence is upheld, it could shift the trajectory of the trial, weaken the prosecution’s position, and potentially trigger wider investigations into the conduct of NDLEA personnel operating at critical national entry points.
However, legal experts caution that the claims remain allegations until proven in court, emphasising that the burden lies on the defence to establish the credibility of the video. As of the time of filing this report, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has not issued an official response to the allegations, leaving room for what is expected to be a fierce legal contest in subsequent proceedings.

The court is expected to continue hearing arguments from both parties as the case unfolds, with national attention firmly fixed on the outcome of a trial that could have far-reaching consequences for Nigeria’s fight against drug trafficking and the accountability of its law enforcement institutions.
