Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé has reacted to Paris Saint-Germain’s continued success in the UEFA Champions League following his departure from the French club.
Mbappé left PSG for Real Madrid in 2024 after seven seasons in Paris, with winning the Champions League widely regarded as one of the major ambitions behind his move to the Spanish giants. However, PSG went on to lift their first European title shortly after his departure.
The French forward has now addressed the narrative surrounding PSG’s success without him, amid claims that the club’s back-to-back Champions League achievements have made his departure look significant.
Mbappé’s situation has attracted renewed attention because he spent much of his PSG career pursuing the Champions League trophy without winning it. The club reached the final in 2020 but lost to Bayern Munich, while subsequent campaigns ended at different stages of the competition.
After Mbappé’s exit, PSG finally secured the European crown, adding another chapter to the debate over the club’s transformation under manager Luis Enrique.
The development is important because Mbappé’s move to Real Madrid was partly motivated by his desire to compete for the biggest European prize. His first campaign in Madrid did not deliver the Champions League breakthrough, with Real Madrid eliminated by Bayern Munich in the 2026 quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, PSG have established themselves as one of Europe’s strongest sides, raising questions about whether their collective approach has become more effective without relying heavily on a single superstar.
