Bayern Munich and England striker Harry Kane has acknowledged that he is in contention for the 2026 Ballon d’Or but remains cautious about predicting whether he will win the prestigious individual award.
Kane discussed his chances while speaking with former England midfielder Owen Hargreaves, amid an increasingly competitive race involving Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé and Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal.
The England captain’s candidacy has been strengthened by his remarkable 2025/26 campaign with Bayern Munich. Kane scored 61 goals for the German champions across the season and also found the net six times as England finished third at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Kane admitted that winning the Ballon d’Or would represent a major achievement, but his comments suggested that he is focused more on his performances than on the final voting outcome.
His main competitors include Mbappé, who enjoyed another prolific campaign with Real Madrid and finished the World Cup as the tournament’s leading scorer with 10 goals, and Yamal, who played a key role in Spain’s World Cup triumph.
The race is particularly significant because the 2026 award covers a World Cup year, meaning performances at the tournament could have a major influence on voters. Kane helped England reach the third-place playoff, while Yamal’s Spain lifted the trophy.
Kane’s individual numbers, however, have kept him among the strongest contenders. His goalscoring consistency at Bayern and his impact for England have led several former players and analysts to back him for the award.
