Nollywood actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham has distanced herself from the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council after her name appeared on a list of entertainers appointed to its Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate ahead of the 2027 elections.
Abraham clarified her position in a statement shared on social media, saying she was not a member of any campaign council and asking the public to disregard reports suggesting that she had accepted the role.
“I’m not a member of any campaign council. I have said it recently. I am staying out of politics. Please disregard the supposed inclusion of my name in any campaign committee,” she wrote.
Her comments came after the Lagos APC released its campaign structure, which listed several prominent entertainment figures under the directorate. The group includes veteran actor Jide Kosoko as co-director and actress Eniola Badmus as deputy director, alongside other actors, filmmakers and musicians.
Abraham subsequently addressed the issue again after an online user suggested that her decision was influenced by previous criticism. She rejected that interpretation, explaining that she discovered her name on the list without prior knowledge.
“Bro, I didn’t do it because of any bully. I did it because it was the right thing to do. I woke up and saw my name on a list I knew absolutely nothing about,” she said, according to reports.
The development has attracted attention because Abraham was publicly involved in the 2023 presidential election, when she supported Bola Tinubu. Her political position at the time generated significant social media criticism, which she later discussed publicly.
In 2024, Abraham indicated that she would no longer openly disclose her political choices following the backlash surrounding her 2023 involvement. Her latest statement appears consistent with that decision, although she has not indicated support for or opposition to any candidate in the 2027 election.
The episode highlights the growing involvement of Nigerian entertainers in political campaigns and the scrutiny that can accompany celebrity participation in partisan activities.
Despite Abraham’s rejection, her name remained on the published APC campaign document at the time of reporting. The Lagos APC campaign council is continuing preparations for the 2027 elections, while Abraham has publicly stated that she does not intend to participate in its campaign structure.
