Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has urged members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State to prioritise the unity of the party ahead of personal political ambitions as preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify.
Malami, who is the ADC governorship candidate in Kebbi, made the call on Wednesday while inaugurating a 600-member campaign council in the state. He urged party members to embrace reconciliation, teamwork and issue-based campaigning.
The former minister stressed that political disagreements should not be allowed to damage relationships among party members and supporters.
“After the elections, we will still worship together, attend the same markets, celebrate together, mourn together and raise our children together. No political ambition is worth destroying those bonds,” Malami said.
He described the campaign council as a platform for collective action rather than an avenue for promoting individual interests. According to him, members appointed to the council should regard their roles as a responsibility to serve the party and its supporters.
Malami also called on the council members to build an inclusive grassroots structure capable of taking the ADC’s message to communities across Kebbi State’s 21 local government areas.
The campaign council includes representatives from different communities, local government areas and senatorial districts, reflecting the party’s attempt to establish a broad-based campaign structure ahead of the election.
The development is significant as political parties across Nigeria intensify preparations for the 2027 elections. For the ADC, maintaining internal cohesion could be particularly important as it seeks to strengthen its presence and challenge established political parties.
Malami further urged members to conduct their campaigns around issues and policies rather than personal attacks, while encouraging reconciliation where disagreements arise.
The ADC has emerged as a significant opposition platform ahead of 2027, following the alignment of several prominent political figures with the party. In Kebbi, Malami’s candidacy and the newly inaugurated campaign council are expected to form a major part of the party’s electoral strategy.
