2027 Elections: INEC Confirms Receipt of Atiku, 470 Other ADC Candidate Nominations

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed receiving the nomination details of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and 470 other candidates presented by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue.

According to the electoral commission, the submissions were received through the appropriate nomination channels in line with the Electoral Act and the commission’s established guidelines. INEC explained that receiving candidates’ names does not automatically signify final clearance, as every submission will undergo the required verification and compliance process before publication of the final list.

The commission stated that all political parties participating in the 2027 elections are expected to comply with constitutional provisions, electoral regulations, and deadlines governing candidate nominations. It reiterated its commitment to conducting a transparent and credible electoral process while treating all registered political parties fairly.

INEC further assured Nigerians that the verification exercise would include a thorough review of the qualifications and documentation submitted by each candidate to ensure compliance with the law. The commission emphasized that only candidates who satisfy all legal requirements will be eligible to contest the elections.

The development marks another milestone in the build-up to the 2027 general elections, as political parties continue to finalize their candidates for various elective positions across the country. The ADC’s submission of a large number of candidates reflects its preparations for contests at the presidential, governorship, National Assembly, and state assembly levels.
