Former Kano State Governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has called for reconciliation and closer political cooperation between Northern Nigeria and the South-East as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
Speaking at a public event, Kwankwaso stressed the importance of national unity, urging political leaders and citizens to set aside past grievances in the interest of peace, development, and inclusive governance. He said Nigeria’s progress depends on stronger collaboration among the country’s geopolitical regions.
According to the former presidential candidate, forgiveness and mutual understanding are essential to rebuilding trust and fostering productive relationships across ethnic and regional divides. He maintained that the North and the South-East have historically shared economic, social, and political ties that should be strengthened rather than weakened.
Kwankwaso noted that political differences should not be allowed to create long-term divisions among Nigerians. He urged leaders to promote dialogue, respect, and cooperation while working towards solutions to the country’s economic and security challenges.
The former governor also emphasized the need for issue-based politics ahead of the 2027 elections, encouraging political parties and aspirants to focus on policies capable of improving the lives of Nigerians instead of promoting divisive rhetoric.
Political analysts say Kwankwaso’s remarks come at a time when consultations and alliance-building are gradually intensifying among political actors ahead of the next election cycle. They noted that regional partnerships and inter-party negotiations are expected to play a significant role in shaping the 2027 political landscape.
