Nigerian producer and singer John Saviours Udomboso, popularly known as Young Jonn, has rejected a collaboration request from rapper Blaqbonez after resurfacing an old social media post in which the rapper appeared to favour another producer.
The exchange began after Young Jonn posted on X that he wanted a close group of friends who could move together. Blaqbonez responded by expressing interest in joining him and collaborating on music.
“Oya, make we dey together, sing as one,” Blaqbonez wrote in response to Young Jonn’s post.
Rather than accepting the proposal, Young Jonn shared a screenshot of a 2015 tweet attributed to Blaqbonez. In the old post, the rapper had reportedly indicated that he preferred producer DJ Coublon to Young Jonn.
Young Jonn responded to the recent collaboration request with a short remark: “Go sing as one with Coublon.”
The response quickly generated reactions among Nigerian music fans, with the decade-old tweet becoming the centre of the interaction. The episode also drew attention to how comments made by artists years earlier can resurface and influence conversations long after they were posted.
Blaqbonez subsequently offered an explanation for the old post. According to reports, the rapper said the tweet was made by his social media handler in 2015, distancing himself from direct responsibility for the message.
The disagreement has attracted interest because both artists are established figures within Nigeria’s contemporary music industry. Young Jonn built his reputation primarily as a music producer before expanding into recording and performing, while Blaqbonez is known for his work as a rapper and songwriter.
The incident also highlights the informal and often humorous way Nigerian entertainers interact publicly on social media. While the exchange has generated speculation about a possible collaboration, no joint project between Young Jonn and Blaqbonez has been announced.
For now, the public interaction remains centred on an old tweet, a rejected collaboration request and Blaqbonez’s explanation that his handler was responsible for the 2015 post.
