World Teachers’ Day: Adeleke Hails Teachers as Nation Builders, Reaffirms Welfare Commitment

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has described teachers as critical builders of the nation, praising their role in shaping the minds, character and future of young Nigerians.

Adeleke made the remarks in a message commemorating the 2026 World Teachers’ Day on Monday, October 5, while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving teachers’ welfare, training and working conditions in Osun State.

The governor said teaching goes beyond a profession, describing it as a calling that requires dedication, discipline, patience and sacrifice. He noted that teachers play an important role in preparing children and young people to become responsible and productive members of society.

“Teachers are builders. They spend every day shaping minds, directing paths, and imparting knowledge and values in our children and young people,” Adeleke said.

He expressed appreciation to teachers, particularly those in Osun, for their contribution to education and social development. According to him, the state government would continue to support educators by improving their working environment and providing resources needed to perform their duties effectively.

Adeleke also said his administration had prioritised teachers’ welfare during its first three years in office, alongside a structured rehabilitation of public school infrastructure aimed at making schools more conducive for teaching and learning.

The governor urged the public to recognise and appropriately reward teachers, stressing that their contributions should not be acknowledged only during the annual World Teachers’ Day celebration.

The statement comes as education stakeholders continue to emphasise the importance of teacher welfare, professional development and improved learning environments to the quality of education in Nigeria.

World Teachers’ Day is observed annually on October 5 to recognise educators and highlight issues affecting the teaching profession. The 2026 global theme, “Standing with Teachers: 60 Years of Protecting the Profession, Advancing Its Status and Shaping Our Futures,” underscores the importance of supporting teachers as central figures in education and national development.
