Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said President Bola Tinubu’s administration has redefined infrastructure delivery in the nation’s capital, citing the pace of ongoing road and public facility projects across Abuja.
Wike made the statement on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, while inspecting several construction sites in the FCT, including Arterial Road S1 linking Ring Road II to Arterial Road S20 in Kaura District, Collector Road C2 in Life Camp and Arterial Road N16 connecting Ring Road II with Ring Road III.
“We are happy because we can see that the administration of President Bola Tinubu has redefined infrastructure as far as the FCT is concerned,” Wike said during the inspection.
The minister said the projects were designed to improve road connectivity, ease traffic congestion and open up previously underserved areas of the Federal Capital Territory. He expressed particular interest in the N16 project, which includes major bridges and construction across difficult terrain.
According to Wike, the contractor handling the N16 project has assured the FCT Administration that the road will be completed by the first week of January. He said completion would significantly change connectivity around the Gwarimpa area.
The minister also inspected rehabilitation work at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, saying the facility is expected to be ready to host a major tournament in November. The project is being handled by Julius Berger following directives from the Federal Government to reopen and rehabilitate the facility.
Wike further disclosed that implementation of the FCT’s 2026 capital budget had surpassed 60 per cent, despite delays in the release of funds. He said contractors had resumed work after funding became available.
The development is significant as the FCT Administration continues efforts to complete major infrastructure projects before the 2027 general elections. Earlier, Wike said 76 of 107 capital projects awarded under the Tinubu administration had been completed, with additional projects scheduled for delivery.
The ongoing projects form part of broader efforts to improve transportation, connectivity and development across Abuja and its satellite communities under the current FCT administration.
